Work Packages
SHINE is organised into seven interconnected work packages covering governance, requirements, testing and modelling, industrial deployment, validation, impact and dissemination.
Work-package structure
The seven work packages form a connected implementation pathway. WP1 provides governance across the full project; WP2 establishes industrial scenarios and requirements; WP3 generates experimental and modelling knowledge; WP4 delivers the industrial-scale heater; WP5 validates it under industrial conditions; WP6 assesses exploitation and impact; and WP7 supports communication, dissemination, stakeholder engagement, standardisation and skills throughout the project.
Project management and coordination

Pilot testing, refractory development, FEM/CFD modelling, lining life-cycle simulation and carbon-avoidance modelling.
Electric Heater industrial-scale demo module: design, supply, erection, commissioning
Lead: PIT · M4–M30
Executive engineering, procurement, site preparation, erection and commissioning of the 13.7 MW demonstrator.
Demo plant trials and validation
Lead: Stegra · M25–M45
Validation campaign, Digital Twin, long-duration industrial trials, refractory assessment and replicability studies.
Impact assessment and exploitation plan

Market analysis, IPR and exploitation, business models, techno-economic assessment, LCA, LCC and carbon footprint.
Dissemination, training and synergies with other projects
